Food Environment Atlas

Online tool that allows users to map and compare counties across the US on the ability of their residents to access healthful food. It assembles statistics in three broad categories: food choices, health and well-being, and community characteristics. It includes 90 indicators, among them access and proximity to a grocery store, rates of food insecurity, food and nutrition assistance program participation, and availability of local foods.

Healthy Stores Project
The Healthy Stores Project is based in Baltimore at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health Center for Human Nutrition. It works with projects in Manitoba, Ontario, Michigan, Arizona, Hawaii, and the Marshall Islands, some of which involve First Nations communities. Each project webpage includes background information and downloadable resources such as recipe cards, flyers, newspaper articles, and research reports. Click on “Intervention Materials” to see additional promotional/educational resources from each project, including resources in Korean for Baltimore store owners.

Market Makeovers
This website is “a dynamic, user-friendly online toolkit about the process of transforming small corner stores to carry healthier food choices.” It focuses on the work of the South LA Healthy Eating Active Community Initiative and the group Public Matters. It includes resources describing how to do a corner store makeover, information about food deserts in LA, and over 100 videos created primarily by youth. The site is described as “a way for everyone to dialogue, post and exchange questions and information.”

Nutrition Education Toolkit – CLOCC and West Side United
From CLOCC and West Side United.
A 2019 needs assessment of local food pantries determined that resources for nutrition education were highly requested. This finding was supported by information from the Greater Chicago Food Depository. The toolkit is a product of that finding.
